Privacy Policy
This policy explains what ShowIP.net processes when you use the public IP tools, CIDR calculator, machine-readable endpoints, maps, ads, analytics, and administrator login screens.

Who operates ShowIP.net
ShowIP.net is operated by Techbase. Contact: dan@techba.se.
Data we process
- Your public IP address, request host, user agent, browser and operating-system hints, selected request headers, and query parameters needed to answer the request.
- IP addresses or CIDR networks you enter into lookup tools, including checkip and network query values.
- Approximate network, ASN, and location data derived from MaxMind GeoLite2 data when available.
- Browser requests to OpenStreetMap tile servers when an approximate location map is loaded.
- First-party analytics events such as page views, endpoint clicks, copy actions, referrer path, visitor ID, session ID, and timestamps. Product-event metadata is intentionally small and should not contain raw IPs, headers, cookies, tokens, or lookup payloads.
- Server-side operational metrics for public routes, including request method, route path without query string, route group, status code, and timestamp. These records do not store client IP addresses, headers, cookies, request bodies, or lookup values.
- Google Analytics measurement and consent-mode pings on public browser pages where Google Analytics is enabled. With denied analytics storage, Google tags are configured not to read or write analytics cookies.
- Administrator account data, sessions, and security events when an operator logs in to private admin screens.
- Advertising and consent data processed by Google AdSense, Google Privacy & messaging/Funding Choices, and advertising partners when ads or consent messages are shown.
Why we process it
- To show your public IP address, approximate network/location, and request details.
- To calculate CIDR/network details and provide machine-readable endpoint responses for scripts, tools, and AI agents.
- To keep the service reliable, debug errors, prevent abuse, and understand which tools are useful through first-party analytics, server-side route visibility, and Google Analytics where configured.
- To operate advertising and consent flows that fund the free public service.
- To secure administrator access and internal analytics screens.
Third parties
Google Analytics may use cookies such as _ga and _ga_<measurement-id> to distinguish visitors and maintain session state where consent and settings allow. ShowIP.net sets Google Consent Mode defaults to denied before loading the Google tag, then relies on the Google consent message where it is shown; with denied analytics storage, Google's consent mode can still send cookieless measurement pings.
Google and other advertising vendors may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads, measure ads, prevent fraud and abuse, and personalize ads where consent and settings allow. OpenStreetMap tile servers receive normal browser requests when a map is loaded. MaxMind GeoLite2 data is used locally by ShowIP.net to estimate network and location details.
Google's Analytics cookie guidance explains the common GA4 cookies and default durations.
Google's AdSense privacy guidance asks publisher privacy policies to disclose Google and third-party advertising cookie use and personalized advertising choices. Google's EU user consent policy also requires legally valid consent for cookies/local storage and personal-data use for ads personalization where required.
Your choices
- Public tools and endpoints do not require a ShowIP.net account.
- You can use the plain text and JSON endpoints to avoid loading the browser map UI.
- You can manage Google Analytics and advertising choices in Google's ad settings and, where shown, through the Google consent message.
- You can block or delete cookies in your browser, but administrator login and some consent choices may stop working.
- You can contact us to ask about access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or portability rights that may apply to your data.
See the Cookie Policy for a practical list of cookies and similar technologies used by ShowIP.net.
Retention and accuracy
IP geolocation is approximate and usually points to an ISP or network location, not an exact device location. Analytics and operational records are kept only as long as useful for operations, security, product analytics, and legal compliance, then deleted or aggregated where practical.
